Best Wireless Headphones

Wireless headphones have been out for some time and their popularity is only growing. The convenience of working around the house or yard without worrying about getting tangled up in wires, or being able to listen to TV or music next to someone who is reading, has made life more pleasant for listeners and non-listeners alike.

Manufacturers of some of the best wireless headphones are Sennheiser, Logitech, and Sony. There are others, but these are the ones we thought noteworthy.

The Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphone with charging cradle offers a 120-foot range that will work even through walls. It only weighs 8 ounces, so you’re not likely to need a chiropractic neck adjustment after a long listening session. This cushioned open ear style headphone with adjustable headband comes in at around $70. Most people are astounded by the crisp clean sound, including bass – not the norm for wireless headphones. If you want to step up to surround sound for an even more amazing audio experience, you can go with the RS 130, but expect to pay over twice as much. ($150) Neither of these models is either suitable or compatible with iPod. These are for TV and CD’s at home.

Kudos also for Sony’s MDR-IF240RK wireless headphones, coming in at under $50. They get the “Best Wireless Headphones Review” for their class and price point. The cradle charge lasts over 30 hours with a range of just over 20 feet. The sound quality is above average, but the long battery charge life is one of its most appealing features. If you decide to step up to surround sound, you’ll be paying around $200 for the MDR-DS6000. At this price, full surround sound is your main benefit, but you also get a greatly increased range of nearly 100 feet and even better sound quality. Wearing them may be much more comfortable that buying them, but they have one of best fits out there, and you get what you pay for. Again, these are not the headphones you take to the gym.

Logitech Wireless HeadsetLogitech, has however, come out with the first set of Bluetooth headphones for Apple’s MP3 player. These wireless headphones feature a neckband-style with foam cushioned ear pads and built in controls, a low-profile Bluetooth 1.2 wireless transmitter that docks directly to your iPod and, and a duel charger. The transmitter runs off its own battery, so it doesn’t drain your iPod’s power. The range is about 30 feet, but not powerful enough to go through walls. It has ample power, however, to transmit through a backpack, purse, or gym bag. It weighs just 3.2 ounces, which makes it one of the most comfortable iPod headphones around. The neckband is not adjustable, however and breakage was a concern for some. For better durability, upgrade to the Logitech FreePulse. You’re looking at a $100-$200 range.

The best wireless headphone is, of course, the one that you’re happy with. You can read reviews all day and get tips and pointers from any number of people willing to give their opinion, but in the end, your opinion is the only one that counts. You are the author of your own best wireless headphone reviews…you, your ears, and your wallet.
