Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones
Noise reducing is a buzz term associated with headphones that block ambient noise to keep it from “mixing” with whatever you’re listening to – usually that’s tunes. Sony noise cancelling headphones allow you to immerse yourself in the music without the distractions of external noise.
Sony offers several good quality models in varying price ranges. For those who have no problem laying down $200, the Sony MDR-NC50 noise canceling earphones are the best bet. This is the perfect headphone set for home or travel. It features a detachable cord and swivel ear cups. A carrying case is included. Both ear cups turn in, flattening the unit well and guarding it against crushing from anything else you might be packing, including books. The rugged case also stores the battery and accessories. The sound quality of MP3 players is well preserved, with a good balance of highs, lows, and mid-ranges. Since ambient noise is so muted, volume settings can be reduced as well, which is only good news for your eardrums.
At a more entry-level price range ($50) is the Sony MDR-NC6 noise canceling headphones. Manufactured to Sony’s usual standards for style and durability, they are sturdy and a good value for the money. Ambient sound is synthesized by an anti-sound signal created by the noise canceling circuitry. This reduces environmental noise by 10dB at 300Hz. These Sony noise canceling earphones can also be used as passive headphones simply by not activating the noise canceling circuit.
In the $16 – $25 range, The Sony MDR-EX32LP noise canceling earbuds deliver impeccable sound reproduction. These headphones us a silicon ear bud that allows the driver to fit comfortably and securely in the ear canal. Three different ear bud sizes are included to insure the perfect fit without slipping out. Music lovers will not only appreciate the deep bass and robust sound quality of the 9 mm driver units, but the very small dent it makes in their wallets.
For the freedom of cordless listening, the Sony DRBT100CX noise cancelling Bluetooth earbuds, in the $50 – $80 range feature a built-in microphone with echo cancellation and clear voice technology. The crystal clear hands free operation can keep you talking for 11 hours on that Spring break or Summer vacation road trip. You have no one to talk to for 11 hours? Then tune in to your favorite music off your MP3 player. It’s all good.
Sony also offers, the HBH-DS970 in Bluetooth technology. Music and conversation are both possible with this hands-free headset. Features include comfortable rubber capped earbuds, a lanyard style control pod that conveniently displays the name and number of your caller, and real time speaker adjustment that senses when the noise level in your environment changes and adjusts the volume accordingly. Pretty cool for $50.
While SONY does NOT stand for “Special Olympics of New York” or “Standard Oil of New York”, it does stand for quality and value, the two things that Sony is best at combining. Their noise cancelling headphones are no exception.
