At first I hesitated to feature such an inexpensive set of earbuds, but the MDR-W08L at about $10 have a loyal and vocal following. When reading the reviews at Amazon, I was surprised at the number of owners that have stocked up on several pairs of these, fearing that they will be discontinued. It’s true that many of these owners have experienced a channel shorting out after a couple of months (though some have owned the same pair for more than a year), but they feel the advantages and low cost more than compensate for this apparent shortcoming. These buds are truly designed as sports earphones. In fact several owners actually rinse them off under water after use. These are a fairly new entry into the sub-$100 category of earbuds. One unique feature is that by twisting the knurled knob at the earbud tip, the size may be adjusted. Mainly due to the ability to precisely adjust the fit, most reviewers commented on the sound isolation effectiveness of these phones. This has only been reviewed four times at Amazon, but all rated them a 5 out of 5. If your looking for an earbud set that delivers high quality audio sound along with comfortable and well-isolating tips, these might be a good pair to consider. Comes with both a tin container and a leather carry case. They are presently retailing for just under $90.

These phones are actually made by Ultimate Ears, and in fact are identical to the Super.F1 3 Studio. Like all in-ear buds, they depend on a good seal to produce exceptional sound quality. Designing for a tight seal and maximum comfort is the design challenge for all in-ear sound isolation earbuds. Some complain that the Altec Lansing fell short in the comfort department. Several have adapted foam ear tips from Comply Foam report a huge improvement in the comfort department, while maintaining great audio qualities. Definately one of the better values for a replacement set of earbuds, especially in the $40 range.

These are an active noise cancelling earbud set – meaning that active electronic circuitry senses outside noises and produces a signal that cancels it out. For those who find the in-ear noise isolating type buds intolerable due to the tight sealing tips they require, these are a great option.These have received good reviews at amazon, unusual for active noise cancelling phones in this price range.
